Caring for pearls: Pearls are a soft, organic gemstone - between 2.5 and 4.5 on the Mohs scale of 10, and require special care to ensure lasting brilliance. Always follow the 'last thing on - first thing off' rule for pearls, protecting them from cosmetics, hairspray, and perfume. Never use any chemical to clean them that is not specifically labelled as proper for pearl care. Always store your pearls in a soft cloth or pouch, keeping them safe from any abrasive objects such as other jewellery. Should you spill anything on them, simply rinse them in soapy water and dry them immediately. When properly cared for, your beautiful cultured pearls will last a lifetime!
How to care for your .925 silver jewellery:
Keep it dry. It's not a problem if it gets wet, but do dry it quickly if you forget to take it off before showering.
-Remove it before swimming, saunas, hot tubs, working out, or household chores.
-Remove it before exposure to the sun, while getting ready to go out (to avoid getting cosmetics or creams on it) and while preparing food.
-To clean it, use a soft microfiber cloth and rub it in back and forth strokes (not little circles which can worsen the tarnish.) For hard to reach areas, a cotton swab will do.
-You may use a store-bought cleaner or make your own, using one-part baking soda and two-parts water. The paste formed is excellent to clean your silver, using a very soft toothbrush or cloth. In just minutes your 925 jewellery will shine beautifully!
Proper storage is also key to maintaining your silver jewellery. The best option is individual air-tight jewellery pouches. Putting several pieces together can cause scratching, tangling, or tarnish.
An advantage of 925 silver is that it requires less care and tarnishes less than 950.
